What can science contribute to transformation processes towards Sustainable Development? What can we recommend to future research and transfer projects in order to gain a better understanding of the problem situation and institutional design options providing adequate incentives as well as measures to successfully overcome impediments hindering the cooperation of field actors?

These questions are central for “applied transformative science” projects and thus, are at the centre of the annual s:ne update Symposium. The 2019 Symposium will focus on methodological challenges: Using workshop formats as well as a fishbowl conversation (Agenda), it gathers perspectives and experiences from various transdisciplinary projects.

The project “System Innovation for Sustainable Development (s:ne)” develops new paths towards sustainable development cooperating with actors from industry, politics, administration, the scientific community and the non-governmental sector. Their common goal is to generate solutions for current challenges such as climate change, transportation or problematic substances in everyday products and their global supply chains. For this purpose, the University of Applied Science Darmstadt (h_da) and its partners combine scientific expertise with practical knowledge.

With this s:ne concept, the h_da succeeded in the funding programme „Innovative Hochschule“, supported by the Federal Government and the federal states. Project partners are the Darmstadt Institut Wohnen und Umwelt (IWU), the Institute for Social-Ecological Research (ISOE), Oeko-Institut e.V., Software AG, the Schader-Stiftung and the business consultancy “e-hoch-3”.

The conference will be held in German.
